Introduction

In the context of this guidance, a nuclear knowledge management tool can be a recognized process, procedure or best practice approach that may, or may not, employ one or more of the three primary elements of knowledge management. A tool is a way of leveraging the maximum benefit from knowledge and in general an organization will use a number of different tools that best suit its way of operating, its people and the type of knowledge they possess. Examples of nuclear knowledge management tools that are explored later in this guidance and in other IAEA publications include: — Communities of practice; — A directory of personal skills and experiences; — Meeting spaces conducive to information and knowledge exchange; — Technical libraries and online information repositories; — Conducting a ‘lessons learned’ exercise at the conclusion of a project; — In-house training and mentoring programmes. -A, -Action Learning Sets, -After Action Review, -An Audience With, -Anecdote Circles, -B, -Blogging, -Brainwriting, -C, -Capture task execution on video, -Card Sorting, -Career History Mapping, -Case studies, -Causal Mapping, -Coaching, -Communication plan Template, -Community of Practice Charter, -Concept Mapping, -Constrained Information Tasks, -Content Management, -CoP Movie, -Critical Incident Method/CDM, -D, -Data mining, -Decision table/decision flowchart, -Develop a standard, -Document indexing and folder structuring, -Documents revisited, -Doormat letter, -E, -E-learning, -E-zines/Newsletters, -Effective Teamworking, -E cont., -Expert interviews, -Expert Meeting, -Expert Pages, -F, -FAQs, -G, -Good Practice Templates, -Good Practice Transfer, -I, -Information architecture, -Information design, -J, -Job Manual/Handbook, -K, -Keywords/tagging, -Kick-off event script, -Knowledge Cafes, -Knowledge Management in the Value Chain, -Knowledge Markets, -Knowledge Sharing Dashboard, -L, -Leading a CoP Script, -Learning between Projects, -Learning from Projects, -Learning in Projects, -Learning log, -Learning Plan, -Lessons Learned Library, -Libraries, -Lunch and Learn, -M, -Mentoring, -Metadocuments/README, -Mysite, -P, -Pearls of Wisdom, -P cont., -Personal Network Mapping, -Plant Configuration Experience Capture, -Post-Project Review, -Pre-Project Review, -Process Mapping, -Project Chronology, -Project Good Practice Conference, -R, -Research and development, -S, -Search guidance, -Sharepoint site, -Sharing Events, -Sharing protocol, -Significant Milestone Review, -Simulation/role play, -Stakeholder Mapping, -Storytelling, -Systems thinking, -T, -Task interviews, -Taxonomies, -Teachback interviews, -Ten Steps to Collaborative Problem-solving, -Thinking aloud, -Twenty question interviews, -V, -Virtual discussions, -Virtual Exhibition Centre, -W, -Webinars, -Wiki, -Y, -Yellow Pages,
