Definition

The knowledge management activities that are selected for the organization to implement in their knowledge management strategy. They address people, process, technology and governance as well as socialization, externalization, combination, internalization.

Description

The knowledge management framework is often depicted as an image, as "an image is worth a thousand words," which allows people to see/understand what is being implemented in the KM program in a wholistic way.

Purpose & benefits

A Knowledge Management Framework ensures that all necessary KM elements (Accountabilities, Processes, Technologies and Governance) are in place, and interconnected, it is this interconnection that is key, otherwise you are implementing disparate activities and will not succeed. The framework ensures that there are no gaps in the system, and that knowledge flows freely through the organisation and that the right KM processes are selected for implementation, in order to meet the organization's needs.
