Definition
A NKM policy is A principle or protocol to guide decisions and achieve rational outcomes with respect to knowledge management for organizations in the nuclear field.

A KM policy gives guidelines on how to translate the KM strategy into everyday practices. An effective policy has to clearly and concisely indicate the procedures or work flows to follow, thus presenting a firm ground for knowledge-related activities and decisions. A knowledge management policy should include various areas such as a policy statement, purpose, scope, role and responsibilities of individuals and managers.

A policy is a principle or protocol to guide decisions and achieve rational outcomes. A policy is a statement of intent, and is implemented as a procedure or protocol (from Wikipedia). The basis for a KM policy is the KM strategy of the organization. A KM policy gives guidelines on how to translate the KM strategy into everyday practices. An effective policy has to clearly and concisely indicate the procedures or work flows to follow, thus presenting a firm ground for knowledge-related activities and decisions. In an integrated management system, a KM policy should refer to all knowledge-related activities of the entire management system.
A knowledge management policy should include various areas such as a policy statement, purpose, scope, role and responsibilities of individuals and managers. The policy should focus on the primary componentes of KM, people, processes and technology, and consider the KM processes adopted in the organization. A KM policy may be supported by a variety of other documents, giving detailed directions on specific knowledge-related activities.
